It is more likely that an American will die from being hit by lightning than from a terrorist attack. I recognize this is a dangerous statement to make — surely there will be someone in Washington who will write legislation to declare a war on lightning.
Ron Paul (via carpelibertatem)

Hey Republicans. Want to beat Obama?

Here’s your guy.

Answering Ron Paul’s question, here is a historical chart on how many gallons of gas a silver eagle will buy.

motherjones:

Soldiers tend to see Paul as understanding the pressures they face better than the other candidates because he’s the only one in the group who served in uniform, as a flight surgeon in the Air Force and Air National Guard during the Vietnam era. The libertarian’s service gives him “street cred,” Kwiatkowski noted. ”We often in the military have no idea what the foreign policy or the military policy is. All we know is we get told to do things, and often these things are costly, dangerous, and unproductive, and create more insecurity for us and for the country.”

Full story here.

Honestly, I’m disillusioned with, generally, politics. And I feel disillusioned with some things that Obama has done, especially with the wars. At the same time, I like him. I’ve met him and I like him as a person.

Most presidents that I have ever witnessed in my lifetime have not had any type of perfect record. And I feel for any president, because the way our government works and especially with the partisan rifts that happen, it’s very tough to get anything accomplished.

I’ve really been refreshed by Ron Paul. That’s probably been my favorite candidate lately.

Paul’s odd coalition of Old Right conservatives and young liberal college students hasn’t been shaken at all by the newsletter story. In primary after primary, he outperforms with liberals. This convinces me that Paul’s close third place result in Iowa was a godsend: It made sure that Newsletteraquiddick remained a boutique story, not an explosive new story about a frontrunner. And it suggests that Paul’s voters are so dedicated to their protest votes that they’re willing to overlook… well, everything that makes him look bad. Most of them know they’re not picking a president. They’re keeping an anti-drug war, anti-tax spokesman on the debate stage next to Mitt Romney.

A lot of people are going to hate him for saying it, but there is a lot of truth there.

Ron Paul is the only candidate for the Republican nomination whose endorsement will matter to Mitt Romney. It is the only endorsement that will bring votes and the only endorsement, if withheld, that could cost Romney the general election.

If Ron Paul speaks at the GOP convention (as he was not invited to do in 2008), the party will be united and Romney will win in November 2012. If Ron Paul speaks only at his own rally in Tampa, Florida (as happened at the 2008 GOP convention in Minnesota) the party will not be at full strength.
